Wheelchair Accessible Holiday Activities

There are many different events occurring throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area to celebrate the holidays. Those who may have mobility complications don't have to miss out on attending some of the local holiday occasions and sightseeing. From drive through Christmas light displays to wheelchair accessible attractions, there's something for everyone this holiday season. If you or a loved one has mobility difficulties, they can still participate in holiday celebrations over the next month. Listed below are several events happening around the DFW area to celebrate the holidays that are convenient for everyone to participate in, regardless of their mobility status.

The Dallas Zoo is putting on a drive-through event to cruise through the zoo and see all the holiday lights. This is a great option for those who want to stay in their car and not get around and walk. However, tickets must be purchased to attend. Holiday at the Arboretum is a holiday event for all ages at the Dallas Arboretum. For this event that is running until December 31st, 2021, tickets will need to be purchased online at https://www.dallasarboretum.org/events-activities/holiday-at-the-arboretum/?gclid=CjwKCAiA-9uNBhBTEiwAN3IlNHFqhBHd--DoYdLpOIDTVoeo9BnQNy-xZcP71vBNKF8KscN4-aicnxoCS90QAvD_BwE. In regards to wheelchair accessibility, they have wheelchairs and trams that will be provided for those with walking limitations and are provided on a first come first serve basis. Keep in mind that the tram service ends at 4:30pm daily.

In Fort Worth, Casa Mañana is presenting the musical 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and is suitable for all ages. There are several different show dates and times and more information can be found on their website at http://www.casamanana.org/attraction/rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer/. Casa Mañana does have wheelchair accessible seating for their performances and handicap seating can only be purchased by calling 817.332.2272 x3.

Also in Fort Worth, Sounds of the Season at Arborlawn United Methodist Church is a family-friendly concert by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra on December 17th, 2021. All tickets are general admission without assigned seats, but there is wheelchair accessible seating available and it is recommended to arrive early to ensure proper seating. Tickets can be purchased online at https://fwsymphony.org/community-concerts/sounds-of-the-season-at-arborlawn-united-methodist-church or at will-call before the show.

In Arlington, the Interlochen Christmas Lights is a 40 year tradition that attracts thousands of families to come drive-through the free display to see the neighborhood lights. For more information you can visit http://lakeinterlochentx.com/christmas-lights/ . This would be a great activity that the whole family can enjoy from the comfort of your vehicle.

For those interested in a live nativity presentation, Vista Ridge United Methodist Church is putting on a free live nativity on December 19th, 2021. This will take place on the front lawn of the church and is free for all ages. Families attending the live nativity will also receive a wooden ornament.
